The successful candidate will be a seasoned and experienced professional with a demonstrated track record of successful projects and consistent value production within complex environments. You’ll need a full understanding of the functional aspects of respective products and be able to translate to the technical side for the build. Unlike traditional Product Owners, this role sits within the Information Technology realm and is an extension of the business for the specific product. The Product Owner will establish strong relationships with the business stakeholders and be an advocate and voice for the product.


  • Strong understanding of the Agile Manifesto and the mindset of Agile

  • Facilitate work prioritization at its intake point by presiding over organizational voting sessions

  • Ownership of the Product Backlog as a representation of the organization’s definition of value from highest to lowest in priority

  • Excellent communication skills both from a technical and functional perspective

  • Be the catalyst for the connection between the organization’s value consumers and value producers

  • Participate in Sprint, Release, and Portfolio planning sessions to ensure that the definition of value is communicated and implemented into the value delivery team’s plan

  • Continuing education and expansion of knowledge of Agile and development of the organization’s philosophy on Agile value production

  • Exchanging ideas with other Product Owners within the organization to promote continuous improvement

  • Become an indispensable leader within the organization through exemplary ethics and professionalism

  • Create Product Roadmaps and Release Plans

  • Excellent conflict resolution skills including collaboration across teams to minimize negativity and mediation to lessen escalation

  • Ability to write comprehensive, INVESTed User Stories

  • Understand Gherkin and the ability to write thorough User Acceptance Criteria

  • Strong understanding of Personas and how they are used in defining user stories and acceptance criteria

  • Mentor and collaborate with other Product Owners



  • Bachelor’s degree required

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience working as a Product Owner/Proxy Product Owner in a technology environment

  • User Story writing and normalization

  • Development of acceptance criteria for User Stories

  • Facilitation and input on the definition of done for an iteration or work increment

  • Competence with ROI ranking methods (such as Kano, ROI, MoSCoW, etc.) to facilitate business decisions on the ordering of the Product Backlog

  • Competence in conducting Gemba Walks to promote immersion into the delivery process and to facilitate continuous improvement

  • Competence in both Scrum and Kanban methodologies

  • Expertise in simple analytics to gauge and track value delivery performance over time

  • Experience managing a backlog using VSTS, Leankit, Scrumwise, or another comparable product

  • Experience creating Wireframes using Balsamiq or another comparable product is a plus

  • Scrum Certified Product Owner credential is a plus

  • Microsoft Team Services (VSTS)
